Railroad Park is one of everyone’s favorite places to spend the afternoon in Birmingham. With beautiful landscaping, cool passing trains, gorgeous walking trails, skating bowls, great places to take a bike and a wonderful skating rink every winter, It’s no wonder most people spend the majority of their free time wandering the paths and enjoying the view. The one thing the Railroad Park is lacking is a good place to settle down and do everyone’s favorite thing…EAT!

Fortunately, there are lots of fantastic places to sit down and have a meal within walking distance of the Railroad Park! Today, I’ve chosen some of my absolute favorites and made up a list just for you. Ready for a food adventure? Let’s go!

Tortugas

Are your tastebuds in the mood for some delicious homemade pizza? Mine sure are! Tortugas Pizza was voted “Birmingham’s Best Pizza” in 2015 by the Birmingham Business Journal and was on the list of “100 Alabama Foods to Try Before You Die”. But it doesn’t just stop at pizza. Tortugas also offers delicious Lasagna, subs, and salads you won’t want to miss. If you want to blow your taste buds away and sweet them off their feet, Tortugas is most certainly the best place to start!

Monday Night Brewing

This brewery also features an assortment of southwestern themed food like tacos, nachos, and quesadillas. Not to mention, they have a wide variety of tasty beers to choose from. Their taproom is open every day at 11:30 AM and offers tours on the weekends. With a laid-back atmosphere and delicious food and drinks, Monday Night Brewing is definitely worth checking out.

The Taco Truck

Looking for a Street Taco Truck that’ll blow your mind? Our favorite Dos Hermanos Taco Truck comes around 14 Street North in Birmingham on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 AM until 2 PM and you won’t want to miss out. With delicious blends of flavor, affordable prices and friendly service, you’ll be finding reasons to drop by and get a taco whenever you see the truck.

Taziki’s

From handcrafter gyros and Mediterranean salads to a scrumptious dessert of rich chocolate cake or baklava, Taziki’s will have your mouth watering again and again for all of their delicious Mediterranean dishes. Located on 18th Street South Downtown, you won’t have to walk too far from the Railroad Park, but we guarantee that every step will be well worth the mouth-watering cuisine that awaits you.

The Boxcar Cafe

Located inside the park near 17th Street plaza, The Boxcar Cafe offers a unique dining experience with a retro railroad theme. Enjoy classic diner dishes like burgers and fries, or try their specialty sandwiches and salads. And don’t forget to grab a milkshake or root beer float for the perfect summer treat. They are also the only liquor license holder located within the park, so you can enjoy a local craft beer outdoors as well.

Momma Goldberg’s Deli

If you’re craving a good old-fashioned sandwich, Momma Goldberg’s Deli is the place to go. Located inside Regions Field on 1st Avenue South, this deli offers a variety of delicious sandwiches piled high with fresh ingredients. But what makes Momma Goldberg’s truly special is their famous “Momma’s Love” sandwich – made with turkey, ham, roast beef, pastrami and Swiss cheese on a freshly baked bun.

Niki’s West

From Breakfast to Steak to Seafood, Niki’s West will leave you in want of absolutely nothing except a well-satisfied stomach and an equally satisfied wallet. This wonderful little restaurant has been around since 1957 and it’s customers have always been totally satisfied with the wonderful service that it’s staff provides. It is truly one of Birmingham’s finest and most unique restaurants and you’ll be very glad you stopped by!

Paramount

This local bar made the list for two reasons – 1 the peanut hummus is a perfectly southern take on this Mediterranean classic and #2 is definitely the burgers, which are among some of the best you’ll find in Birmingham. Paramount boasts an amazing game room and a fine selection of local craft beer.

And there you have it! Just a few of our top favorite restaurants that you can get to very easily from everyone’s favorite park in Downtown Birmingham. We hope you enjoy and we look forward to hearing all about your favorite places to stop for a bite to eat!
