As the founder of the Alabama real estate investors association and host of the Alareia podcast, we often get questions about the nicest parts of Birmingham, where to live and where to invest. Below are our top 5 places to live or invest if you are in the Birmingham, Alabama marketplace! 
 

1. Mountain Brook- Mountain Brook tops most lists as the best places to live or invest in Birmingham because of the area. Home buyers in Mountain Brook will find a wide range of options that range from beautiful condos to large homes with acre plus lots. Mountain Brook also offers amenities like the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and the local Birmingham zoo. If you are a golfer, the golf courses are beautiful and if shopping is more your thing, check out the Brookwood Village and get all of your shopping done! 

 

2. Vestavia Hills- Vestavia Hills was a close second on this list and if you are looking for the suburban lifestyle with a short commute, this is the place for you! The average commute is only 20-minutes and the local public school systems are among the best in the state. Vestavia also offers beautiful golf and several local pools for summertime activities. 

 
3. Pelham – If you are looking for the great outdoors, Pelham is the place for you. Pelham offers everything from beautiful townhomes to private cabins and the scenic Oak Mountain State Park offers all of the outdoor activities you could ever want! From hiking to camping and everything in between, Pelham can satisfy your daytime activities but also offers nice shopping and dining for your nighttime activities
. 
 

4. Homewood – Homewood checks in number 4 on our list and at just 15 minutes of commute time, you can live in the suburbs without having to sacrifice your morning drive. Homewood has great local schools, but also offers great food and the kid-friendly Homewood Central Park. 

 

5. Trussville – Trussville offers home buyers everything from single-family houses to beautiful large lot custom homes. Trussville may be best known for their Main Street dining and local shops. Trussville is only around 20 minutes from downtown Birmingham and it a nice, safe, close-knit community.

If you are moving to the area or are simply looking for nice areas to invest in real estate, these 5 cities are a great place to start. These may not be the cheapest places to find your next deal, but if you can find a house that is underpriced, these areas are great for buying and holding as the expected property values are only expected to rise!
