Exfoliate Weekly

To keep your skin soft and smooth, you need to exfoliate it regularly, once a week at the very least. If you have a treatment booked in, make sure you exfoliate the areas that are going to be waxed a couple of hours before your treatment. Afterwards, you should wait four days at least before exfoliating again. After that point you can exfoliate as normal until your next treatment.

Avoid Using Body Lotion or Shower Gel for a Day

Although we are not suggesting that you should not wash after you’ve been to a waxing session, we would recommend that you carefully choose the kind of products you use to wash with. To avoid skin irritation, you should not use any body lotion or shower gel on your skin, especially the waxed areas, for at least 24-hours. When you do shower or bath, you should also ensure that the water is set to a lukewarm temperature as anything hotter could cause skin irritation.

Cold Compress and Ice

If you have had a waxing, particularly a Brazilian or another bikini waxing, there is likely to be redness around those sensitive areas. You can help reduce the redness and eventually make it disappear by placing a cold compress or ice on the area.

Lavender Oil or Tea Tree Oil

Another option that can help reduce any inflammation is either lavender oil or tea tree oil which helps to soothe the skin, especially if you find one that contains aspirin. The great thing about these products is that they are natural and will not cause further irritation or complications.

Expose Your Legs to Cold Air

If you want to avoid getting those irritating red bumps or general redness on your legs that often occur after a waxing, the best thing you can do is expose the waxed area to the cold air. You should avoid the sun, that’s a given, but you should leave your legs bare and not in jeans or tights to encourage the skin to recover quicker and more effectively.
